Will Work for Food

It was the ultimate irony. A man was standing by the road with his sign that read, "Will work for food." We have all seen people doing this. What was wonderful this time is he was standing in front of a large business establishment that had a huge sign posted, "Help Wanted – Now Hiring." The sign was just a few feet behind him but above him.

Now I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he really did want work. I will not give into the temptation to think the last thing he wanted was work instead of a handout. The reason I am being so generous is it fits my lesson for the day. If the man really wanted work and had looked up he would have found the answer to his need. The lesson here is obvious. We have needs and if we will look up to our heavenly Father we will find the source of all life and love. We will find someone who not only wants to help us but someone who can.

Jesus once said in Matthew 6:7, "But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him." How grand!
