A Choice of Saints

Today I overheard my wife asking my granddaughter what to call a group of Brownie Scouts. I think the answer is obvious. It is a “Box of Brownies.”

We have wonderful names for groups of things. We have prides of lions, gaggles of geese, melodies of larks and flocks of pigeons. It appears to me these are names just made up by anybody. Therefore I think cities should henceforth call groups of pigeons “Frustrations of Pigeons” or “Headaches of Pigeons.”

All of this brought me to wondering what we would call a collection of saints. I think the answer to that is “Church.” But because we can make up this stuff I hereby declare a collection of saints to be a “Selection.”

After all they have indeed been selected. First God selected them. Actually that is pretty inclusive since God has selected us all to be saved. Secondly saints are self-selected. We get to choose whether or not we want to be part of God’s group. It really boils down to our choice or selection. Maybe the name should be a “Choice of Saints.” I like that one. After all the saints are top choice people.

I'm Roger Bothwell and my address is hrb1@tiac.net or 151 Old Farm Rd. Leominster, MA 01453. Thank you for your support of our faith ministry.
