Licking Cake Beaters

I stood in the kitchen this evening waiting for my wife to finish making a cake so I could like the beaters. I guess I have not grown up much in the past half century. As I licked the last remnants of batter from the inside of one of the beaters I remembered as a child thinking how wonderful it would be to grow up and be able to eat the whole bowl of batter. Big people could do that. They would be the boss and wouldn’t have to bake the cake at all.

Well I still have never done such a thing. My wife won’t let me. Maybe someday when she is gone I could mix up a bowl of batter and try. Maybe that is a really dumb idea. Not maybe! It is a dumb idea.

There are so many things in life that are best had when we receive them in very small portions. A small amount of leisure is a delightful accent to a week of hard work.

There are many things we thought as a child that we adjust later on in life. It is like Paul said in I Corn. 13. “When I was a child I thought as a child, now I must think like a man.” When I was a child I thought only good children got to go to heaven. Now I know better. Now I know no one is really good but Jesus. The rest of us get to go to heaven because we are forgiven.
