Challenge Your Faith

I am sitting here looking at an advertisement for J. P. Morgan. It contains the picture of a very intelligent looking person with a verse speaking of their commitment to excellence. I especially am drawn to the final three lines. They are as follows:

I will assume nothing.
I will challenge everything.
I will rush to the defense of facts.

It is an outstanding creed not just for a financial institution but especially for Christians. An unchallenged faith is a weak faith. To lamely accept one’s childhood faith without putting in under the scrutiny of adult thinking is a sure path to disillusionment and ultimate confusion when times get tough.

God is not honored by ignorant Christianity. He longs for us to use the mental capacities He has given us to challenge the ideas, theology and traditions of the past so we can make them our own. We need to assume nothing but examine everything. God says, “Come now let us reason together.”

There is no intellectual territory off limits for Christians. We must exhaust all avenues of discovery that we might in the words of Peter in I Peter 3:15, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.”

I'm Roger Bothwell and my address is hrb1@tiac.net or 151 Old Farm Rd. Leominster, MA 01453. Thank you for your support of our faith ministry.
