Friday Nights

I love Friday nights. I hear things on Friday nights I don’t normally hear. It is our tradition to turn off the television and the radio each Friday evening. Once in a while we put on some soft music but soon the tape or CD comes to an end and no one is ever in a hurry to start it again. The house grows quiet and I heard the sound of a clock in the next room. Occasionally the sound of a turning piece of paper comes from my wife’s book.

I hear the sounds of the night coming in the open window. Crickets, cicadas and a whippoorwill decorate the darkness outside. Perhaps the loudest sound is my dog getting up to scratch her ear.

It is such a wonderful luxury to have this tradition of quiet time. I look forward to the sun going down on Friday evening. It is a time to listen. If I am very quiet I often hear a still small voice breaking into the consciousness of my mind. It reminds me that Jesus is the creator and that He died for us. That is a good thing to hear once in a while. It reminds us of our place in the universe.

And what is that place? John 3:1, “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: . . .” That makes us royalty. That is not a bad place to be. I like Friday nights.

I'm Roger Bothwell and my address is hrb1@tiac.net or 151 Old Farm Rd. Leominster, MA 01453. Thank you for your support of our faith ministry.
