Moms Are Always Very Pretty

All of my life I have enjoyed reading the funnies in the newspaper. My wife has little interest. I have discovered this is quite common. Comic strips appeal to a larger segment of the male population than the female population.

When I was very small I recall remarks made in church somehow making it a bit evil to enjoy comics. To this day I have yet to understand why. It is one of those things I was told I would understand when I grew up. I grew up and I still do not understand why. So I continue to enjoy them.

Yesterday the Peanuts strip by Charles Schulz was extremely poignant. I liked it very much. It said so much about the human experience. Charlie Brown is talking to a little girl and he says, “Lucy says we’re going to an art museum. What do you do in an art museum?”

The little girl says, “You look at the pictures.”

Charlie says, “Really, Maybe they’ll have a picture of my mom.”

The little girl asks, “Why would they have a picture of your mom?”

Charlie responds, “She’s very pretty.”

Well, there it is. Need I comment? It is a universal truth. Moms are always very pretty to their little boys and I assume little girls. Oh, to big boys also.
