Pumpkin Festival

Saturday night we went to Keene, New Hampshire for their Pumpkin Festival. I now have seen enough Jack-O-Lanterns to last me for the rest of my life. I am not sure how many there were but last year they had 13,432 and this year they were going for a record. Decoratively arranged on scaffolding they rose high in the sky to illuminate Main Street that had the city lights turned off for maximum effect.

There must have been 5 people present for each pumpkin. It was a huge crowd that caused one to walk with baby steps and making one more familiar with strangers than we ever want to be. Despite that I am delighted we went to see this incredible event.

The main thing that intrigued me was the creativity of the Jack-O-Lantern carvers. There was everything present from basic two eyes, one nose and one mouth to elaborate works of art. Some of them were truly beautiful items.

The creativity of people amazes me. It is one of God’s attributes that He shares with us. He grants that gift to us. From the hands of people come wonderful works of art. Unfortunately some of us do not use the gift for good but just the opposite. Alas it is the price of freedom. Freedom to create is a marvelous challenge that each of us can respond to with new ways to perform acts of goodness and unselfishness. When we do so we are truly like our Creator.

I'm Roger Bothwell and my address is hrb1@tiac.net or 151 Old Farm Rd. Leominster, MA 01453. Thank you for your support of our faith ministry.
