Tow Truck of Tow Trucks

Today I passed a tow truck towing a tow truck. My mind immediately filled with terms we use to honor people. When introducing someone of importance we often, depending of course upon the person’s occupation, call them a teacher of teachers, preacher of preachers, man among men and so on.

Well this was a tow truck of tow trucks and it was a big one. It looked like it could rescue most any thing. As I thought about that it occurred to me that what I saw was a rescuer of rescuers, for that it was a tow truck is; a rescuer from the side of some busy or abandoned roadway when one breaks down. Most likely all of us have had to have one at some time or other in our short lives.

That’s what Jesus is. He is a rescuer of rescuers. For all those courageous people who daily risk their own safety to save others they also need Jesus. He is the only one who can rescue any of us from the sin and death of this world.

Paul speaks of it in Romans 7:24 –25 when he wrote, “What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God--through Jesus Christ our Lord!”

There it is. It matters not how brave, strong and courageous is any one. He or she stills ultimately needs Jesus. For the world will eventually catch us all. It is only a matter of time. But you see Jesus is beyond time and places us beyond time. When one lives forever time ceases to an important factor. Just as if I had an endless supply of money I could purchase anything, so it is with an endless supply of time we can do, learn and accomplish anything.

Jesus is so wonderful for rescuing us and giving us eternal life it is no wonder that we call Him by another one of those double names. He is also King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
