Spring of Life -

The Artist
Summer has past and each
morning in New England brings a new display of art. Places
along the road one drives by each day without arousing any
attention at all suddenly jump out in the new morning light
demanding we take note of their autumn beauty. It is as if
some giant wandered about during the night with buckets of
orange, yellow and red paint whimsically splashing it over
bushes and trees.
I know he must have been
roaming from west to east because last evening he carelessly
spilled some of his color across the western sky and this
morning as he exited to the east he decorating the
dawn.
He is a gifted soul.
Whenever I splash paint it appears to be a mess but when
this artist slings his hues masterpieces appear. It is with
sadness that I enjoy his work because it is so fleeting and
temporary. His work on the trees will last for a week or so
but his work on the dawn will change in the blinking of my
eye. I do not even have time to gather loved ones to see
what he has done before it fades into the blue of the
day.
It is obvious from the lack
of scriptural references to the stunning beauty of autumn
the prophets and psalmists of old did not live in a place
where the hillsides turned flaming red and warm orange.
There is so much poetry in the pages of our Bibles one knows
David would have been rhapsodic could he have spent an
October in Massachusetts. His pen would have declared the
glory of God not only from the stars that decorate our
heavens but also from the curvaceous hills of New Hampshire
and the water filled valleys of Connecticut.
What a grand world we have
been given. Each place I have lived has had its own
particular style declaring, "This is my Father's
world
All nature sings and round me rings the music of
the spheres. Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas, His hand
the wonders wrought."
