Algorithms
The dictionary defines "algorithm" as a step-by-step problem solving
process implemented to find a solution in a definite number of steps.
Anyone who ever completed an elementary school long division problem
has used an algorithm. Most of us finished algebra knowing how to find a
needed answer by using algorithms but really had no idea why we did what
we did to find X. We just memorized and followed a series of steps.
How unfortunate that so many people seek salvation by use of man designed
algorithms. The steps usually go something like this. 1. Confess. 2. Be
baptized. 3. Stop doing something others have declared sinful. 4. Go to
church. 5. Pay tithe. Actually the list varies depending upon the group one
joins. How very different this is from Acts 8, "They came unto a certain
water: and the eunuch said, 'See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be
baptized?' 37And Philip said, 'If you believe with all your heart, you may.'
And he answered and said, 'I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.' "
Everyone I know would agree with this but then come the "buts." You
know the "buts." It is the algorithm for staying saved. The problem is
salvation is just too simple. When something is simple everyone can do it
and the specialists can't control us anymore. There are always specialists.
Let's leave the algorithms in algebra class and experience the joy of
salvation. "Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to
present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy."
