The Pizza Evangelist
It was eleven P.M. and I was taking my black lab for her usual mile before
turning in for the night. The Patriots were playing on Monday Night
Football and so I wasn't overly surprised to see a pizza delivery car pass us
and swing into the driveway of a house occupied only by men. In a few
moments the pizza man was back in his old car and heading my way.
Stopping abruptly he rolled down his window and said, "We have a terrific
special this week. You can get a large pizza with your choice of toppings
for only 5.99. Here's a flyer."
I thought to myself, "What an evangelist! If only I was as enthusiastic about
sharing Jesus." Granted I most likely shouldn't stop strangers in the middle
of the night. Then again maybe I should. Most of us are way to shy about
mentioning our faith. We live in an age of political correctness and we
certainly don't want to offend someone. But what if someone is desperate
for help? What if they are perishing and we are too shy? What if we alone
were the only one able to bring them hope?
While I certainly don't think God calls us to be in people's faces about
Jesus, I also wonder if we sometimes are someone's last chance. Jesus did
say, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of
the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe
all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always,
even unto the end of the world."
