Spring of Life -
The old guy never knew I was there. Slowly he pulled out into the
intersection immediately in front of me. I am so glad I have new brakes on
my truck. Pressing hard on the pedal I felt the shudder of the ABS take
over. When I stopped I seemed close enough to see if he had shaved today.
He never looked my direction. He just kept on his slow pace.
I have often wondered how often all of us come a hair's breadth away from
death and never know it. When I was a little guy I memorized Psalm 91:11.
"For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways."
I do believe God does that for us. Yet the truth is both good people and bad
die from accidents that are not stopped. I wish I could tell you; you would
never have an accident if you claimed God's promise. But I would be lying
to you if I said such. 700 years before Jesus the Old Testament prophet
Habakkuk was angry with God because there did not seem to be equity in
God's blessings. Even Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount, "For he
maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the
just and on the unjust."
Becoming a Christian is a life insurance policy not an accident insurance
policy, which brings us to the big "Why?" For more on this vital topic
please begin reading at Isaiah 55:8. The mature Christian comes to
understand what happens here and now is only "Act One."
