The Unfair War
I had three phone calls at work today. Each person wanted something that I
could not supply. Three times I had to say, "I'm sorry. I can't do that." I
wanted to say, "Yes." It would be so grand to be able to give everyone
everything they need. But there were bigger issues involved. There were
state credentialing issues. I didn't like saying, "No."
God gets a zillion requests a day to which He wants to say, "Yes," but has to
say, "No." I can ask Him to fix the numbers so I will win the lottery. He
will say, "No" for many reasons. #1. There are laws against tampering with
the lottery. In order to help me He would have to cheat a million other
people out of their fair chance. #2. He knows there are a million others who
need the money worse than I do. #3. He knows I would most likely misuse
the money.
That's a pretty bad example but the reality is, God continually has to balance
our requests with larger issues. He isn't just dealing with me or you. He has
to consider the impact of His actions on the entire universe. There is a war
of ethics and principles and should Satan catch God in any way violating
one; Satan wins. It seems like an unfair war. Satan can lie, cheat, steal and
slander. God has to be perfect. Check out the Book of Job or Revelation
12:7. Better yet look at the entire life of Jesus. For over thirty years He was
perfect and because He was, His perfection counts for us, if we ask. This is
amazing. This is the Gospel.
