My Entrance Exam for Heaven

I love my street because it does not have streetlights. Streetlights steal the stars from our children. Late last night as I walked my dog the stars hung above us just out of arm's reach. Stars are potentiality. Stars are future tourist destinations for the redeemed. Hebrews 1 tells us it was Jesus who made the worlds that orbit those colossal suns. The variety of life must be endless. There are so many things to see and so many intelligent life forms to meet.

If we have difficulty living on this small planet with people of different colors, cultures and religions surely there will not be a place for us in God's Kingdom. God's Kingdom is about variety not sameness. God loves diversity. Just look at the birds He put here for us. If I cannot handle living beside a black family or enjoying Hispanic food and music, if I have to surround myself with my kind and make snide remarks about those not like me, I will plainly be miserable in heaven. God doesn't want to keep me out. But neither does He want me to be miserable.

It is so human to think our kind is the best kind. Sorry. It ain't so!!

If I were creating an entrance exam for God's Kingdom it would be quite simple. How do I treat and what do I think about people who aren't like me? We can all be glad I'm not in charge. God is much more gracious. He saves us despite our bigotries and helps us work through them. How are you doing?

I'm Roger Bothwell and my address is roger.bothwell@verizon.net or 151 Old Farm Rd. Leominster, MA 01453. Thank you for your support of our faith ministry.
