Windshield Blindness

I'm sure the following has happened to all of us. We are driving along not even thinking about the windshield. It looks clean enough but suddenly we round a corner and the sun is in our eyes. Instantly the windshield clouds and it is very difficult to see ahead. Alas, the windshield wasn't as clean as we thought.

After a horrific moment of windshield blindness this evening I cleaned it as soon as I got home. This is like our relationship with Jesus. We are moving along through life thinking all is well. Suddenly we are blinded by the truth of the Gospel. It happened to Paul on the road to Damascus. In John 8:12 Jesus said He was the light of the world.

Before Jesus came to shed light, the truth, on the true character of God, God was thought of as a harsh enforcer of rules and regulations. Should someone be caught violating those rules He rained punishment on the offenders. In John 14 Jesus told His disciples they now knew what God is like because they had seen Him, Jesus. Jesus is a photograph of the Father. While He wants us to obey His will, not obeying is stupid because each of His commandments is designed for our benefit, He is quick to forgive. Please note Jesus treatment of the woman taken in adultery. John got the message. That's why he wrote, "If we confess our sins He is faithful to forgive." Once we are forgiven, have our windshields cleaned, we can see and understand God's love so much better. We are no longer blind to what God is really like.
