Spiritual Bankruptcy

So now the dirty little secret has been made public. Christians have long wondered why evangelism in Muslim countries is so unsuccessful. Some of us actually thought there was some intellectual and spiritual content to Islam that made people reluctant to convert. But the trial of Abdul Rahman, who faces the death penalty in Afghanistan for converting to Christianity, sheds an amazing amount of light. Convert and have your head cut off seems to be the reason for not accepting Christ. In 1962 President John F. Kennedy said, " . . . we have never had to build a wall to keep our people in."

In regard to Mr. Rhaman, Muslim cleric Abdul Raoulf said, "This is humiliating for Islam … Cut off his head." May I say to cleric Raoulf, "You are humiliating to Islam." Just in case some people want to say all religions are basically the same, they need but look at this case to see the difference between good and evil. When I was a little boy my father taught me that people punch and fight when they have run out of logic. If I was the first to enter into physical combat at school or elsewhere I had just admitted to everyone I was mentally inferior to my opponent.

People, religions or any organized group that feels the necessity to promote or preserve its values by initiating violence against another is not worthy of anyone's serious consideration. I truly hope Islam is not as intellectually and spiritually bankrupt as it now appears to be.

Jesus really is the only "Prince of Peace."
