They're All

Mark 3:28 is a wonderful verse. Jesus said, "All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies . . ."

"All" is such a simple word. It only has three letters and one of them is a duplicate. I grew up in central Pennsylvania, which like all places, has distinct word usage and pronunciations. One of the local expressions drives some people to distraction. When you have consumed all the ice cream or some other item, you say, "It's all." What you mean of course is that it is all gone, there is no more. But you don't say "gone." All you have to say is the word "all." People who are not from there then ask "all what?" To which you respond, "It's all." There "ain't' no more. (Another colloquialism.)

Therefore when Jesus said, "All sins shall be forgiven." He meant there aren't any left. Now you are going to say, "Left what?" You want me to say, "Left over" meaning they are "all." I will respond, "There aren't any left. They're all." (Period) All of this reminds me of Canadians calling a sofa a chesterfield.

If this is a bit confusing let me just say, "What Jesus meant was there isn't anything you can do or say that cannot be forgiven." This is wonderful news. If we confess our sins He will forgive them. I John 1:9. This is why Mark 3:28 is such a wonderful verse. The sins of our youth, the sins of our middle life and the sins of our old age can be all.
