Fly Strips

It has been years since I have seen a fly strip hanging from the ceiling of a store. I doubt if they still use them. Health departments most likely do not permit it. They were yellow and curled just a bit as they hung down about 18 inches or so. Usually they were above the meat section in a grocery store. I guess we have little need since most meat and other items are so well wrapped these days.

When I was a boy I used to look at those strips all covered with what looked like raisins and wonder why the flies were stupid enough to land there and get stuck.

But then I grew up and learned that flies are about as intelligent as people and that is why they got stuck. It seems that people even when warned that something is dangerous to their health and certain behavior can lead to death still go right ahead and do it anyway. Things like continuing to smoke when we know of the dangers, riding a motorcycle without a helmet, practicing unsafe sex, driving while under the influence of alcohol or using illicit drugs.

Maybe the fly is actually smarter. If there was a label and they were literate they most likely would stay away from that glue strip. That would make them a whole lot smarter than people. Please let’s all use the brains that God has given to us and live full abundant lives by living smart.
