Almost Home

I was pretty happy last evening when a flight I was on from the west coast arrived in Boston a few minutes early. It is always a welcome experience to get out of those tubes full of people and get some fresh air. Our problem was there was no gate available for us. For forty minutes we sat a hundred yards from our destination unable to get off the plane. We could look out the window and see home but we could not go there.

I could not help but think of immigrants who a hundred years ago came to America only to get as far as Ellis Island and then not be allowed to cross that last very short strip of water to New York City.

I also thought of those individuals who stood outside Noah’s ark after the angel came and shut the door. Safety and shelter were just a few feet away but they could not get in.

Ultimately last evening my heart rejoiced in the truth that we have a savior who is most able to carry each of us all the way home to safety. Our Jesus is more than able to accomplish all that we need to make that last step into the promised land. We will not be like Moses who could see the promised land from the mountain top and not enter. We will be taken on in.

Paul tells us in Ephesians Chapter 2 it is a gift of God’s grace. Obviously it is nothing we have earned. It is because we are loved by our heavenly Father. This is joyous news for all of us and any of us who are anxious to get home.

I'm Roger Bothwell and my address is hrb1@tiac.net or 151 Old Farm Rd. Leominster, MA 01453. Thank you for your support of our faith ministry.
