Beyond Our Dreams
A few years ago my neighbor bought a nice lakeside lot not too far away. He
decided to build a little cabin as a place to go on weekends just to relax.
However when he took his simple cabin blue prints to the county planning
office he discovered building codes required an extensive amount of
plumping. Realizing how much that would cost it seemed foolish to spend
all that money on a cabin so he decided to build a small house. However
once his children discovered he was going to build a house they each wanted
a bedroom so they could have family gatherings at the lake. The cabin is
now a 3500 square foot, four-bedroom, three-bathroom home with a grand
deck overlooking the water.
As he told me his tale of unintended growth, I was reminded of young
people, who upon becoming engaged to be married say they are going to
have a small wedding with just a few close friends. A good share of the time
it doesn't work out that way. The small wedding often turns into an
elaborate event costing many times what they first imagined.
Good things and often bad things often exceed our original concept of what
will be. So it will be for those who make Jesus the Lord of their lives. We
cannot help but wonder what heaven is like. It's natural to conjecture. But
Paul assures us in Ephesians 3:20 that we cannot ever imagine the wonder
that God has in store for His precious redeemed.
"Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask
or think, . . ."
