Back To Home Page To Archives - Spring of Life - H. Roger Bothwell Light Grape Juice There is a certain grape juice producer now selling "Light" grape juice. It has half the calories supposedly making it healthier than the original juice. After carefully reading the ingredients it appears to me this new product that costs the same as the 100% juice is produced by adding extra water. This seems like a great deal for the company. We get 60% less juice at the same cost and are told it is for our health. I think I am going to buy the 100% juice and water it down myself. Occasionally we hear messages that amount to watered down Christianity. I'm not talking about 8% tithe instead of 10% or seven commandments instead of ten. I'm talking about watering down God's grace. Diluting Christianity makes it just another religion. Other religions teach morality. Christians do not have a monopoly on ethics or sacrifice. The main thing that makes Christianity different from every other religion in the world is the message of salvation by grace. Every other religion is a system of working to receive God's approval. Often we hear that we are saved by grace followed by the word "but." Then come the dos and don'ts necessary to be saved by grace. As soon as we add one single work to the process we have stripped the glory of the cross and replaced it with our glory. Our works should never be done to gain God's love. Instead we do good works because we are loved. Obedience to God's will is not a means of salvation. It is the fruit of salvation.
