Jesus is God's Self-Expression

Trying to understand the oneness of the Trinity has been a source of mental frustration for millions through the centuries. How could Jesus be the Son of God and not have had a beginning? Doesn't the name Father indicate that one came before the other? And John 3:16 uses the word "begotten." Doesn't that mean one made the other?

In chapter one John reports in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and that Word became flesh. The name for Jesus "Word" helps us. Jesus is the self-expression of God. Jesus is God's message to His universe. As heat and light come from fire so Jesus comes from the Father. It is a natural process. From the very moment the Father existed Jesus existed as His self- expression. Since there was never a moment when the Father did not exist, there was then never a moment when Jesus did not exist. Thus both are eternal and co- existent. We could say the same thing about the Holy Spirit. These three eternal manifestations of God exist as a natural process of being.

Now that I have said this, I most likely have not made it any clearer. If we could fully explain God He would cease to be God. He is a mystery of love that will challenge our minds for eternity. The joy of probing into His character and being fills us with an overwhelming sense of hunger to know more. If you struggle with this, welcome to a prestigious club of the great intellectuals of the world.

And best of all – this infinite God loves you.
