Proofreading
There are times when I think I have written a grammatically correct
devotional with all the words spelled properly. The next day my wife gently
points out the mistakes. She tells me I would do better if when proofreading
I put place my finger on each word as I read it. I tell her I do and I still often
do not see the mistakes. Sometimes it is most difficult to see one's own
errors.
I once knew a man who told me he was ready to go to heaven because it had
been over a year since he had sinned. He figured if he could be perfect for a
year he could be perfect forever and it was safe for God to take him to
heaven. He asked me how long it had been since I had sinned. I told him it
was about as long as it took him to tell me he was perfect.
Sin is not so much what we do as what we are. When Jesus told the rich
young ruler he needed to keep the commandments if he was to live forever,
the young man told Jesus he had done so from his youth. However, he was
smart enough to know something was still wrong. Salvation is not about
what we do but what we are. If we are God's friend salvation is in the bag.
Righteousness comes with friendship and everything else will be fall into
place.
Jesus said, "Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant doesn't know
what his lord does: but I have called you friends; . ." John 15:15
