The Morning Sun

In a poem entitled "October" Robert Frost wrote, "Begin the hours of this day slow." These are days in New England to treasure and to savor each moment. The red, gold, yellow, green and rust colored leaves make one want time to stop. When the wind blows one wants Jesus to stand up in the boat and say, "Peace be still," lest a leave break free and fall to earth. But fall they shall.

And so this morning I was not driving fast on my way to school. I was drinking in the beauty of the morning sun filtering through the roadside trees. When suddenly I saw a car coming head-on at me in my lane. He was not passing anyone. He was just driving in the wrong lane. Fortunately there was room on the shoulder as I completely ran off the road getting out of his way. As he raced by me I noticed he was shielding his face with one hand. I am assuming the sun was in his eyes and he could not see where he was. There is an old saying, "One man's meat is another man's poison." The very same sun that provided me a million dollar view blinded the man going the other direction.

The very same God Jesus invites us to boldly approach without fear and call Father is the very same God Paul describes in Hebrews 12:29 as a consuming fire. For one person He is a source of comfort and for another a source of terror. The difference being that one accepts God's grace while the other thinks he can save himself.
