Stardust
When you dust your bookshelves look closely because part of what you are
brushing away is stardust. Each day mother earth scoops up hundreds of
tons of meteoric material. Talk about gaining weight. It's a wonder our orbit
doesn't slow down with all that added load. If we are lucky on a dark clear
night we get to "ooh" and "ahh" as bits of grit burn up overhead. Even
Jesus talked about it. In Mathew 24:29 He said, "Immediately after the
distress of those days 'the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give
its light; the stars will fall from the sky.'"
One of the great mysteries about the incarnation of Jesus is how much and
what kind of information did He retain. When the Word became flesh and
dwelt among us did He leave all His creative knowledge with His Father in
heaven? In Luke 2:52 it says, "And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and
in favor with God and men." There is a difference between wisdom and
knowledge. People can know a lot and not be wise and people can be wise
without knowing a lot, however, knowing a lot helps. While Jesus was here
did He, like everyone around Him, think the sun went around the earth and
falling stars were really falling stars? Did He know about meteorites?
Actually this is really not important for us to know. What is important is our
knowing who Jesus was and why He came. John 1 tells us He was God
incarnate and John 3 tells us He came so we can live forever.
