Look at that lek of lively Lutherans

I'm not much of a bird watcher but I live with one. Therefore, I get to talk with interesting people and go to interesting places because I get to go along on bird watching adventures. I do have my own binoculars and enjoy seeing the birds. I just don't have a life list with details where and when a blue green yellow rumped vulture was seen. I think I enjoy playing golf for the same reason I enjoy going birding. It's outside.

Every interest group seems to have its own vocabulary and birders are no exception. For example they like to use the word "lek." I know a "lek" is the basic unit currency in Albania but that is not what birders mean. For them a "lek" is a gathering or congregation as in look at that lek of larks. Or the loons are lekking in my back yard. Really! I am not putting you on.

Well, I got to thinking about the wonders of using this word in church since it means to congregate or congregation. Look at that lek of lively Lutherans. We could invite our neighbors to lek with us next Wednesday evening for a midweek service but I'm not too sure they would want to lek with us. I like the idea of lekking for a potluck. The ladies aid society could lek for living leisurely lives.

I am under the impression God is delighted when we lek in His name. Consider the promise of Jesus found in Matthew 18:20, "For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them."
