Safe to Save?

I was chilled today while reading a history of the Nazi occupation of Poland. I was deeply affected by a particular account of the slaying of 1800 Jews just outside their village. The SS invited the local townsmen to come and help. They did. It was their neighbors. This was the day of my birth. As I was drawing my first breath 1800 of my fellowmen had theirs ripped from their throats. Where they frightened? Of course they were. Did they recognize their next-door neighbors holding the guns? Of course they did. Did they understand? I doubt it. And me? Do I understand? No. There are days when I am ashamed to be human. Yet there are times when we soar to excellence in art and virtue and I am thrilled to be a man.

We humans are frightening creatures. One day we produce symphonies and the next cacophonies. One day we produce incredible beauty in verse and the next a curse. "With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing." James 3

How dangerous it is for God to save a man. Will man not rise up and bite the hand that feeds him? No wonder Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 15:50 that flesh and blood will not inherit the kingdom of God. We will be changed for this corruption must put on incorruption. Praise God that He will do it for us. For only then will we be safe to save.
