Spring of Life -
All is Well
It was 4 A.M. and our dog decided something wasn't right. I heard her
rouse from her bed and softly move out the bedroom door and down the
stairs. There was a soft almost imperceptible growl coming from her throat.
Forcing myself to stay awake I listened and wondered if she had had a
dream or had she truly heard some strange sound. Furious barking soon
shattered my solace. Now it was my turn to rouse from bed. What possible
intruder had she uncovered?
It was storming outside and an unusually cold November wind was moving
ice-covered branches bowed low against the window. Ever so lightly they
stroked the glass. Kneeling beside her in the darkness I put my arm about
her trembling body and assured her all was well. She pressed tightly against
me and I felt her tense strong muscles relax. I whispered for her to come
with me and without protest she followed me back upstairs. All was well
with her. Her master told her so.
I have a master and He tells me all is well. He says, "Thou shall not be
afraid for the terror by night; . . . Nor for the pestilence that walks in
darkness; . . . A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right
hand; but it shall not come nigh thee." "Lo, I am with you always, even unto
the end of the world." Psalm 91 & Matthew 28
May we all have the peace and surety of a strong black lab when the Master
tells us all is well.
