Who’s In Control Here?

If you are or have been a dog owner you will understand when I say I wonder who has who trained. Our human ego would like to say we have the dog trained. The reality is we are the ones who jump out of our chairs when the dog stands at the door and barks. We are the ones who finally give in and hand over the food when they put on that pathetic look while cocking their head just a little bit and looking at us with those adoring eyes. It is on such occasions that I truly wonder just who is in control.

Control is important. Have you ever looked at your life and wondered about all the factors that control you? There is your job, your family, the limitations of your environment, your economic status, your health, your intelligence level and hopefully your conscience.

Since freedom is the hallmark of God’s government and His desire for us is to experience ultimate freedom to grow and be, I wondered if we would ever be totally free. If God gave us unlimited resources which I imagine heaven to be, would we experience ultimate freedom? That would depend upon our definition of freedom. Along with freedom comes responsibility. God will grant us what we capable of controlling. I do not want to be given control of a 747 on final because I do not know enough to land it safely. I should only desire control over things I can really control and my character is definitely a major factor.

Paul said in 2 Cor 5:14, “For the love of Christ constraineth us;”

When our lives come under the control of Christlike love it is then that we can be trusted with more and more resources. The more resources we have the more freedom. The more freedom we have the more responsibility we have to use that freedom for the benefit of others.
